There are no words! Brilliant!!
My 13 year old son and I are both reading this series. He is about to surpass me. We absolutely LOVE it! It allows me to escape from the hustle & bustle of my normal life into a land of knights & dragons. Very descriptive and full of eloquent speech. Words I’ve never heard of! I almost cried reliving what Eragon’s dad said to him and about him! Can wait to read the 4th & final book to see how it ends. The author is brilliant!!

Excellently done, but going the wrong places
Brisingr is a worthy successor to Eragon and Eldest. It improves in many aspects over the first two, and falls short in others, but overall, is a very good book. However, given the choice, I preferred Eldest.I have a LOT to say about Brisingr, so I'll break it down into pros and cons here:Pros:*Increasing good prose and dialogue.*Roran's chapters were very strong.*Some brief insight into the mind of Murtagh, which was extremely well thought out and developed, solidifying Murtagh's position as the best character in the saga.*Fast-paced, despite some rather prolonged scenes with little happening. I couldn't put the book down without reading at least 150 pages every time I opened it.*Arya finally shows some real personality, talking a little about her past and her relationship with Faolin. (Though Eragon's thoughts about this were rather dumb.)*There was a nice twist on the traditional mentor death towards the end.*We finally get some insight into Galbatorix's mindset, hearing a well thought-out speech from him at the end.*Increasing originality.*Some very neat characters here and there, such as Rhunon, Elva, and numerous new dwarves.*Despite the seemingly black-and-white nature of the conflict between the Varden and Empire, shades of gray appear when the characters question their cause.Cons:*Too much of the book is focused on Eragon. About 80% of the pages are from his point of view, a disturbing unbalanced situation considering that he is only one of five characters who have their own POV in this book.*The more I read, the more I dislike Eragon. He's becoming increasingly ruthless, slaughtering anyone in his way, even those only doing their jobs or forced to serve the Empire. He becomes so cold and uncaring you really have to wonder if he should be a villain, not the hero. He tries very hard to justify his actions, spouting nonsense about how the ends will justify the means and that he'd only be evil if he enjoyed killing, philosophy that is repeated through the book. Most of the problems I have with the series stem from Eragon or the overemphasis on him. What makes it worse is that the rebel faction praises him as a hero, inflating his already bloated ego. There were times when I felt like Galbatorix was the lesser evil, here.*Murtagh is wasted. Despite how powerful and dangerous he is to the Varden, he doesn't wreak nearly as much havoc as he could or should. He is only briefly seen in Brisingr, and is treated more like an environmental hazard that the characters have to avoid rather than a real villain. It's a pity, because Murtagh is easily the best character and the insights into his personality we do see are very complex and three-dimensional.*The plot is a little weaker in structure than Eldest, with some rather prolonged sessions of dwarf politics and dialogue. At times, the plot feels more like a collection of errands that Eragon has to run rather than a chain of events that leads up to the conclusion.*Nasuada becomes so power-crazed and tyrannical in this book that I was hoping Elva would just let one of those assassins kill her so Roran or someone could lead the Varden instead.*The morals are messed up, as previously mentioned. Too much time is spent with the rebels spouting self-justified diatribe on why they are in the right, and why its okay for them to be burning and pillaging on the path to opposing Galbatorix. Conclusion: Brisingr is a great book, but the series is beginning to get weighed down by some obvious problems stemming from the author's choices. Paolini has talent, but he's misusing those talents by focusing on Eragon as the hero and forgetting Murtagh. He's taking the story in the wrong directions and, I think, making a lot of bad decisions when it comes to what he will do. He's doing what he's doing well, but he isn't so good at deciding what should be done.

Quality of item sent didn't match listing.
I liked the book series and wanted to purchase my own set. I was a bit disappointed that the physical book sent to me had stains on the pages. It was listed as "like new" and it wasn't.

A fantastic storyline, I would recommend!
The Inheritance Cycle is an interesting, mythical and imaginative series and I would strongly recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy novels, and who is a heavy reader (they can read for 30mins- 1 hour at least in one sitting). The story is well- established, eloquently written and original. Overall, I have really enjoyed reading the first three books, and I look forward to reading the last. The first novel was my absolute favourite because it is relatable. The majority of the story line and chapters revolve around humans, whereas in the remaining three novels the reader is more formally introduced to Elves, The Razac, Dwarves etc. With the sudden emphasis around these mythical creatures, I felt distant and bored at times because Paolini is very attentive to detail, which often made the storyline long-witted and dull.I managed to complete the first and second book with ease because I was infatuated with the plot. It is very different and unique and that was enough to keep me hooked. However the third book was a real struggle to read at times, due to the unnecessarily long names of dwarves and the unrelatable mythical characters, their over- exaggerated customs, culture and formalities were too much to absorb. Also, I DO NOT CARE!The storyline is surprisingly political as well, which was not made clear to me in the blurb. As someone who is not a fan of politics I did find myself disinterested. It frustrated me how much importance was given to being polite and maintaining allies. Roran sacrificed his physical and mental wellbeing carelessly, Eragon became everyone's puppet, and Nasauda was coerced into a stressful position from such a young age. They are in a war- torn country, yet they are wasting their time and energy being fake kind and accommodating to each other, celebrating festivals and enjoying traditions when their land is being destroyed. They spend too much time trying to please the stupid, incoherent leaders (excluding Nasuada's father, Nasuada and Orik) and maintain good relations with them, which forces many of the characters to be thoughtless about taking care of themselves. While the plot is fascinating and intriguing, the books are written in such mundane detail that the reader is often forced to overlook this. I strongly believe three books would have been suffice had Paolini significantly reduced the amount of detail he wrote in- I felt like I was reading a poem! However, I did find it easier to manoeuvre through the third book by reading it in long sittings, and I will do the same for the last book.Although I have been very critical, I would still recommend this series to anyone to adores fantasy novels and is a heavy- reader like myself, because it truly is interesting, original and well- written. I am excited to read the last novel.

Awful
I was very dissapointed with this book, after enjoying the first two, I had high expectations of this one, the plot was very slow and didn't really go any where. I found the whole cast of characters very annoying and pathetic, especially the leader of the Varden whom was in my opinion overly arrogant and full of herself. I also think this book could of done with a better editor as it could of easily been a 300 page book if you cut out all the rubbish and things that had been overly described. I don't usually like giving up on books but as this one was so awful I had to give up

Sublime Reading
Brisingr : Eragon Inheritance cycle....This was a real suprise for me even though i had seen the movie i had not thought that this book would have the kind of grip on me that it does !! It was exciting from the first page to the last and kept me thoroughly enthralled throughout. From the moment i started reading it gripped me so hard that i did not want it to let me go and upon finishing the book i fealt almost depondent that there was not more for me to get my teeth into. I cannot believe it still !! I am now desperate for the next book to be finished and published. This will be the most exciting book to come out this year for me.If you enjoy a truly exciting, dramatic, amazingly outstanding read then the eragon series is for you...ENJOY !!!!

Brilliant book, horrible audio version
I love these books and bought this as a long journey companion for myself and the wife. Unfortunately we couldn't force ourselves any further through the set than disc 2.Much prefer O'Shay in Eragon and Eldest. We believe He does a lot better job at bringing the characters to life with a lot broader vocal range than the gent who read this. Kept having trouble working out which character it was supposed to be due to same voice being used for multiple characters.
