Sturdy, secure and high quality. You can't go wrong!
Super service from Amazon as usual; arrived very quickly and well packaged. As for the product it's self, it does exactly what it should. I am using it with a late 2015, 27" iMac and it fits with no problem. I have bought an external usb3 enclosure and added an SSD drive in it. The BackPack is sitting behind my iMac and keeps the drive and cables securely out of the way.A little fiddly to figure out and place onto the iMac but when you get there, it's well worth it. High quality and very sturdy. Has an anti-slip matt that you can place on it and also fixings to hold items securely on it with no risk for damage. I'm not sure why other reviews say it doesn't work; I suspect they are either not using the correct mounts (multiple provided for different iMac models) or the haven't understood how to place the clips and tray correctly behind the computer. It tool me a few minutes to figure it out however. All and all very happy and very impressed with the product and would highly recommend it. Review pictures for setup and current use.

Great External Storage Solution
Really happy with this. I’ve used it to store an external SSD on the back of a 2016 iMac and it’s worked very well with space left for others if I need. Now the iMac boots and runs off the SSD making it a lot faster and you cannot tell by looking from the front that this is there so the aesthetic isn’t ruined. You could just stick a hard drive to the back I guess but this adds an element of class. The installation can be a little fiddly, especially if you have big hands but it’s only a small gripe and was to be expected. The quality and the colour matches up nicely with Apple’s standard. Would recommend although it’s a little pricey.

Reduce the price or increase the metal thickness.
This product is well presented (packaged) and has been well designed. Being able to hide computers, hard drives and wires behind the Thunderbolt monitor is a brilliant idea. Yes screwing the clips on is a bit fiddly, if like me you have old hands, but you only do it once and with the careful use of a pair of pliers you can get enough leverage to make it secure. The silicon retaining pillars (4) and the silicon mat to protect metal parts was a pleasant surprise. The stated weight limit is 3 lbs, which is not much. However I mounted a Mini Mac (close to the back of the monitor to reduce leverage) and a WD my book 2TB hard drive both held in place by the pillars. I estimate the combined weight to be 5 lbs ! It has held so far, although I suspect it is on the limit of its capacity. The problem is the gauge of the metal. By increasing the thickness or using material with higher tensile strength the load could be significantly increased and hence produce a more useful product, because at £29.99 it really is a bit expensive.

Perfect
After so many negative reviews I nearly didn't buy this but glad i did. This product is expensive for what it is but it works perfectly. The stand on an iMac gets wider and more important thicker towards the base so it is impossible for the bracket to slip down. Once the brackets have been fitted to the shelf it is very easy to fit to the stand simply by sliding the brackets onto the stand and then pushing down till they grip tight. Once this has been done the shelf will easily slide from side to side. 2 sets of inserts are provided for mounting the shelf high or low. It also comes with 4 posts which allow vertical standing of portable drives, I have 3 standing on the shelf vertical without any problems.I have a 2012 iMac 27 and have no knowledge of other iMacs. It is possible that older iMacs have a thinner stand or the stand thickness is the same from top to bottom. If the thickness of the stand does not increase then this WILL NOT WORK. Also this bracket is useless for mounting on the front of my iMac27 and I doubt whether it would be of any use on the front of any iMac. You should check compatibility with your iMac before buying.I like this so much that I am thinking of getting another one for the lower position on my IMac

Just doesn't work as intended
Spent an hour trying to attach this. Basic problem is that it doesn't fit a Mac Studio monitor. The bolts that attach the shelf to the stand don't fully tighten and so tit just balances at an angle awkwardly. Poorly made and not fit for purpose. Packaging is nice though

Excellent, but must be assembled correctly.
Excellent product, fast delivery. The kit comes with a selection of clips for fitting in different positions, so it should suit most needs. It needs to be assembled properly, but when the right clips are used it's as solid as a rock. There is adequate room for two USB portable drives side by side, and nothing is ever going to move by itself there. I can only think that those who complain that the shelf falls off have used the wrong clips, or assembled it the wrong way round. The tapered shape of the iMac back support means that the shelf is self-locking once in position. I use it half way up the back of a 2015 21.5 inch mac, pointing rearwards. Anyone with big fingers and thumbs might find it a bit fiddly, but it only needs fitting once. Anyway, it gets five stars from me.

Well thought through useful accessory
Yes it is expensive but has been designed really well and takes only a few minutes to set up. It provides an out of sight mini shelf ideal for mounting external hard drives - I use mine for a backup drive at present - there's plenty of room for more than one. Supplied are the mounts to fit a wide variety of iMacs and some useful screw in vertical posts to ensure that whatever you put on the shelf stays put. There are also side slots to feed usb etc through to help keep cables in place if removing a drive.

The 12S Backpack is "okay" - Just!!
I am a big Apple fan and I like products designed specifically for Apple products, this is the first 12 South item that I've bought and was, quite frankly, expecting better quality - it's just about 'okay'. I read one review somewhere that it was supplied with an adjustable strap for attaching a device to the underside of the shelf - I didn't get one 🤔
