Less calories with the same taste as sugar
I've used this for years and it's a great product. Tastes just the same as sugar. I use in baking as well as my coffee.

Tastes exactly like sugar!
I use this to replace sugar in all my foods. Spoon for spoon as it comes, it looks and tastes exactly like sugar but with half the calories and no sugar spikes. I like to bake and when taste testing from the mixing bowl, find the sweetness is slightly less after baking so you may need to add a little more to taste on those occasions. Coming from the birch tree, it is a natural product and has no artificial aftertaste like traditional sweeteners. I've given this to sugarholic guests in hot drinks and baking and everyone has been amazed and would never have known.I have a grinder and grind it to powder to make icing sugar/frosted toppings. Sadly this is where it doesn't compare however as it has a graininess and coldness to it which doesn't work well when isolated outside of being used as a sweetening additive.Cooking, baking and in drinks, this sugar substitute is the bomb. Even works ok on cereals when you get past the coldness of texture. Would never go back to sugar now, this even supposedly helps protect the inner ear and kills bacteria in the mouth to protect your teeth and gums. Your teeth feel squeaky clean after eating this! Can't go wrong for kids and adults alike!

Say goodbye to sugar
Whilst it works out more expensively than sugar, it`s hard to complain about any aspect of Xylitol itself - a) the texture is identical to sugar and b) the taste is identical too. At least it is to me! The difference? Unlike sugar, this is not bad for your teeth and your body. I went to sugar-free foods as a by-product of adopting a low-carb diet about two years ago, and haven`t looked back. There is no nutritional benefit to sugar so you essentially have something that is prevalent in many foods but offers you nothing good, only bad - this offers neither good nor bad, so can be added safely to anything without you realising a difference in taste but you`ll notice the difference to your waist if you replace bad sweetener for good sweeteners. This doesn`t have a bad rap from anywhere, as it`s natural - from tree bark, I believe - and it isn`t something synthethised in laboratories, unlike Aspartame (this doesn`t have to warn you about "excessive consumption leading to laxative effects" either)!Xylitol is perfect for diabetics, dieters and anyone who just wants to be healthier. There`s jsimply no need to use sugar again.

Excellent sugar replacement, in moderation.
Around 8 months ago I was diagnosed as type 2 uncontrolled diabetic with dangerously high levels of sugar in my blood.I was immediately placed on metformin and had to make a lot of changes to my diet, mainly cutting out fruits and being more aware of sugar content in foods generally.I researched online and found several sugar alternatives for my daily coffees (breakfast and lunch) which were the only thing I added sugar to directly for the past 15 yrs (2 spoons).I had already been using half-spoon for a couple of years so it was pretty obvious that that hadn't been of any help.I tried Stevia but I found I needed around four times the dosage to equal the same sweetness and the aftertaste was vile and long lasting so Stevia was out.I tried regular sweeteners but the sweetness they offered tasted too different from sugar for me to enjoy my coffee plus they usually left a ring of scum in my coffee so I abandoned them.I tried syrups such as agave and brown rice which but they seemed to affect my sugar level a bit too much but I do still use them occasionally with porridge. My next trial was xylitol which is one of the more expensive alternatives but for me worked perfectly. Most sweeteners have a laxative effect and this one is no different, it hasn't been an issue for me as I usually have between two and four teaspoons a day maximum. This also means that for my usage it doesn't feel too expensive as a 1kg bag usually lasts for 2 months. The taste whilst not identical to sugar is by far the closest for me and offers a similar dosage level for the same sweetness. Whilst there is an aftertaste, it is a lot better than some of the others when combined with coffee. It dissolves similar to sugar but does seem to have a lower burning point so if baking with it just be aware of timing.Since using Xylitol, combined with some dietary changes and metformin I was classed as pre-diabetic again within a few months so I am 100% happy with the product. There was one occasion where I had 4 coffees with xylitol in a day and it definitely affected my IBS so moderation is definitely the word of the day. There are also some days when I suffer from some bloating and wind but I suspect this is probably due to the combination of xylitol with other sweeteners and additives in drinks and food throughout the day.All in all I think for me this is a great sugar substitute.

Good for Oral Health... side effects possible.
Good for your teeth. Not so good for your gut.Typically, a 5-7g teaspoon per day is a good choice for oral health, but it is not a good idea to use Xylitol regularly in your cups of tea or coffee. Even if I have one 7g heaped teaspoon a day of this stuff, it does have a mild laxative effect. Fortunately I am not one of those who get stomach cramps from Xylitol consumption. Sadly I did use it exclusively in my green tea for a while until I cut back so I was having approximately 30-35g a day and... well, I lost a lot of fluids, let me just put it that way lol.If those of you out there are wanting a low calorie sweetener and one that doesn't feed off the plaque bacteria to make acid that damages your teeth, then I highly advise Stevia Sweet. It's cheap, it's light and since it is low in carbohydrates and has very little sugars (0.5g teaspoon has approximately 0.1g sugars), then it is good for those watching their sugar in take or want minimal impact on blood sugar levels. It has been pushed by nutritionists and as a result is called "Stevia Sweet" by many companies... it is not a brand name. It is made of the leaves of the Stevia plant.(I'm a type 1 Diabetic of 22 years).
