Color:Grey Although Thomas Lemuel Oates started Manual Woodworkers & Weavers in 1932, the story goes back further. The roots of the company can be found in Oates' entrepreneurial spirit. He and his brother used to farm the mountain areas of Bat Cave in western North Carolina. They would also help their mother find materials for her crafts. The sons began to make wooden whistles, buckets and bird-houses. They would sell their wares along with her crafts to the people from Charlotte that came through in their horse-drawn buggies on the way to the mountains. Later, Thomas worked at the Ashville Postcard Company. When the Depression hit, he lost his job, but it inspired him to go into business and sell crafts, like cornhusk dolls and woven pieces, that were produced by the local women. He had learned about the wholesale business while working at Ashville. He built a waterwheel to generate electricity at a mill, began making product and opened shop. Over the years, he expanded the company. His son, Lemuel Oates, who would next manage the company, says he worked in the business from a young age. He explains the products were made from cotton scraps left over from making socks. Half-inch circles would be looped together to form a variety of products. Lemuel Oates went to college and then settled in Richmond. In December 1973, he returned to Bat Cave and took over the company. In 2007 his son Travis and his daughter, Molly Oates Sherrill, took over the business

Terrific throw!
I just received this throw last evening and am delighted with it. I wanted a cotton throw to keep handy in the living room for cool nights. This throw is so soft and comfy and VERY attractive. I folded it up and placed it on the ottoman. Within one minute, our calico cat was sleeping on it. That's a real compliment because everyone knows a cat will find the most comfy seat in the house. :) Anyway, the material is soft, the textured pattern is beautiful and I love the fact it is made right here in the USA....in North Carolina. I couldn't be happier. It looks terrific in our living room.

Buyer beware!! This blanket sheds a ton!!!
Updated review:Ok so I’ve washed this blanket now multiple times and it is still shedding everywhere! All over me, my couch and my washer and dryer. NOT WORTH THE HASSEL!!! Wish I would have just bought the chunky knit one I had my eye on. Such a disappointment!Original review:This blanket is exactly what I wanted! Only gave four stars because I was eager to lay it on my couch and it shed everywhere!! Definitely wash this blanket before you use it otherwise you’ll be like me, and have to lint roll your couch!

Decent replacement for my childhood blanket :)
Only thing I don't like about this blanket is the fringe edges. I wish it was just a seamed edge. But the blanket is well made, very much quality. It's the perfect size for me. I needed to replace my childhood blanket that pretty much lost it's life. It's not too big (like a twin size blanket), but it does cover me enough if I get out of bed and am chilly. I do not like fleece (they definitely keep you warm), but I overheat in them, and then I'm a walking static machine. Hair, clothes, everything I touch, and it never goes away. This blanket has different block designs on it, it is a cream color, just as pictured. It's not super heavy and it's definitely not thin. I expect this to last me several years if not even more. Great investment, highly recommend!

I love this blanket
I love this blanket! I had one just like it growing up as a kid that I slept with every night. I am a full grown adult and I used that childhood blanket until it was in absolute shreds. I had been looking for a replacement for a long time, and this blanket is almost a carbon copy! I had to wash it to get the plastic smell out of it, but other than that this blanket as exceeded expectations. Also makes for a beautiful decorative throw!

worth twice the price
i purchased this with slight reluctance because it was about half of the price i expected to pay for the quality and craftsmanship i was wanting. in ordering it, i took the chance that it might turn out to be a great value. i was pleasantly amazed when i received it. i live right here in the smoky mountains where it was hand-crafted, and if i found this item in one of the local gift shops i would expect it to be priced at $60-70.

What a disappointment!
I so wanted to like this throw, because it is very pretty and lightweight and I love the pattern....but it sheds worse than a dog! It leaves little bits of the fabric fiber everywhere I put it (like big fat lint balls)....I thought if I washed it the shedding would stop but I have washed it several times now and it never stops! I have to vacuum the couch constantly which sort of defeats the purpose of having a throw in the first place!

Perfect for Florida
We moved from the northeast to Florida a few years ago. We brought along our throw blankets and were using them here. But they were too heavy for Florida, as some were down filled and some were fleece. I had to keep taking them off and putting them back on. So, I found this cotton throw on Amazon and I'm very glad I did. It is heavy enough to keep you warm, but it breathes as it is cotton, so there's no need for the on and off annoyance. I love this throw. It will need a few washings to get the lint off, but Overall I believe this deserves every one of the 5 stars. It is well made, substantial and I would highly recommend it.

Rich texture, warm color.. Lovely..
I bought this to use as a throw for a chair in our master bedroom and I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. Although the description says white, I'd say it's warmer than white, maybe ivory or cream. It was definitely what I'd hoped for. It has a very rich texture and it's so comfortable. Our kids love to curl up in the chair to read and they often end up falling asleep. I will say that it was shorter than I expected, but I admit that I didn't read the dimensions. When I placed it on the chair though, I felt that it was the perfect width and length. Anything bigger would have way too much overhang. We are very pleased.
